9. A Ronji

Today I went to buy ronjis as souvenirs, A ronji is just like a skirt for Burmese.  Males wear it and Females also wear it.  So a traffic signal for pedestrian's shows an icon which looks like wearing a skirt.  The shape of the icon's bottom part is triangle.

a ronji for female The price of a ronji has become twice or three times compared to two and half years ago, but it has become cheaper for us due to exchange rate.

When a tailor makes a ronji, she cuts the 1 m width of cloth in 2m lengths.  Then she sews up both edges to make it a circled pipe. A knack is required to wear a ronji.

Please see the photograph on right for ladies how to wear a ronji.

a ronji for maleThe left photograph shows how to wear a ronji for men.

A ronji is tightened at waist without a belt just by tucking in the edge, so it'll fall easily by movement.  And sometimes it'll become loose.  In that case people need to retighten whenever a ronji becomes loose.

Even the lady opens the loose circled ronji in front of public and tightens it again.

Ronjis for ladies are colorful and beautiful.  They look like long skirts.  When foreign ladies wear them, it's better to use a safety pin.

When a lady takes a shower, she raises her ronji from waist to chest and covers her breast.  Then she takes off all her tops.  She doesn't mind to do so in front of people.  After that she starts to take a shower.  She washes her body without taking off her ronji.  It looks so sexy.  I hoped that the ronji drops.  But it never happened.

After taking shower, she wears a new ronji on top of the wet ronji.  She fixes the new ronji with her mouth and drops the wet ronji, and wears tops then she shifts the new ronji to her waist.  She does this in front of the public, because the bath is located in public areas.
